Synopsis

Follow along the investigation and interviews of former OceanGate employees as they discuss the CEO and his actions that lead to the implosion of the OceanGate submersible, “Titan.”

Review

So I talk a lot of crap about MH370 The Plane that Disappeared how it was basically a puff piece for the guy presenting it. This isn’t that. This very much is for someone like me that knew that some moron screwed into Carbon Fiber which breaks the fiber and then used a PlayStation controller to try and dive to the Titanic like a redneck, but knew nothing else.

The format of the documentary is excellent. It is a little larger than life at times with the highlight of “The Whistle Blower,” “The Engineer,” etc splashing across the screen when you first get introduced to someone. I think there is even a part where they are looking the other direction where they are going to spin around like a Bond villain stroking a cat. Outside of that, using interviews to push the story forward is always a good way to handle something this long in the making.

There wasn’t any crazy music or hidden reveals so the whole time you are interested in the story and not worrying about what might happen.

My Rating

I liked this documentary. I wish that the investigation was done and I knew the finding, but they did a great job in telling this story to people like me. It might be one of the first NTSB or whatever agency produces the results that I will read from back to front. Mostly, this was informative and entertaining in the way that documentaries can be. I’ll give it a 7.

Parental Rating

I don’t think my parents care about a billionaire CEO or anything like that. I am not sure they even know what this happened 2 years ago. I’m sure that my mom saw it on the Today Show as she sends me stuff from them all the time, but I am not sure she remembers or cares. There is a decent amount of language, but it is toned down for sure. One of the best lines comes from “The Whistleblower” as he calls Stockton, “He was a Wanker for sure. Wait I can’t say that. Oh that isn’t bad here?” I am going to say approved by both, but I don’t know if they would actually watch it.
