The Fast and The Furious: Tokyo Drift

The racing is cool. I very much makes me think of Need for Speed Carbon and I loved that game when it came out. I just realized they came out the same year. That is cool. Either way, the movie gives a very 2000s vibe and just makes you want to race which I think is part of what they wanted

The Fast and The Furious: Tokyo Drift

Synopsis

A young man makes a mistake while racing and is sent to live in Tokyo with his father to avoid jail. With the one rule of "Don't be near cars," he quickly finds himself deep in the Tokyo car scene.

Review

So this movie has not aged well, not that it started well. I really do not like Lucas Black. His acting is flat and when he is supposed to be interested in a girl, he doesn't look like it. He honestly looks like the cars do more for him than the women, which no shade if that is what they want to portray, but he comes across like the dude from My Strange Addiction. You could argue that he cares more about cars than women, sure I'll take that, but that isn't what the writing says. The whole story is about "saving the girl" and I don't think the writing is the issue. I mean look at Bow Wow, who does a great job for such a silly role.

The story is beyond dumb. From beginning to end, there is not a lick of this that makes sense and I think they knew it since we see the series just crash after this. That final scene doesn't help, but it does tie in The Fast and The Furious so now it is just one big happy family.

The racing is cool. I very much makes me think of Need for Speed Carbon and I loved that game when it came out. I just realized they came out the same year. That is cool. Either way, the movie gives a very 2000s vibe and just makes you want to race which I think is part of what they wanted. I know that there is a whole sport around companion drifting now.

My Rating

This is a very 2000s teen movie. Lots of angst. Plenty of limited clothing scenes. Cool cars. A whacky story. In the 2000s this was peak movie settings and I dig it. However, it is kind of garbage in 2026 and that is ok. The acting is honestly what brings this down as most of the people are just frustratingly flat. I wanted to give it a 7, but as I write this, the more I don't like it, and so I am going with a 6.

Parental Rating

Like I said, there are some scenes with limited clothing. No nudity, but a sneeze could show more than they could for PG-13. The language is there, but not crazy. However, there is nothing serious about this movie. No matter how hard they tried, this movie will never be taken serious and my parents could not be begged to watch this movie. I do know that when my dad used to commute on the train for work, he watched this, and HATED it. So this will be a easy rejected by both.
