Gameplay

Over the course of three games, the gameplay just kept getting better. For the last one, it is very good. The movement is so much better. The aiming system is fair improved than any previous one and that makes the weapons more fun to play with. The sniper rifles and assault rifles are really fun to play with, providing a more aggressive play through. The movement has more options, but it is still really clunky.

The level design is a bit rough. There was a lot of trying to push the multiplayer aspect of the game. Having played that years ago, and it was fun, but got very boring, very quickly. The maps reflect this boxed in feeling and just adds to the clunkiness of the game.

The travel aspect of the game are awesome. When I played the first time, the rumbling horn when you scanned to much in one area and the Reapers chase you just sent chills down my spine. I also will say that some bad guys are really difficult. Specifically the Banshee. Those things are so difficult to fight straight up. They typically give you a big weapon against them. There is a fight near the end where you are trying to take down a Reaper and those things plus Ogres just keep coming, and it is a fight that you run out of ammo over and over.

Graphics and Sound

This game is older, and the Legendary Edition did great work to make it look as good as I remembered. The sounds really just push you and sit with you. I love the music and then that horn when the Repears come. I still here that in my mind randomly after a decade of playing it and when I replayed it this time, that was such a wave of nostalgia.

Story and Characters

I am going to say something completely controversial. I have no issues with the ending. I think each option that you are given provides a perfectly acceptable way to handle it. I think I did also play it after they added the "Synthesis" ending which is my favorite. Lastly, I think the other endings do more damage to the characters that you come to love like Legion and Thane, that is unacceptable.

We met both Thane and Legion in Mass Effect 2 and they are for sure the best characters in the game. They are just as powerful in their voice performances as any other. Legion's death still is one of the best ones in the game as it really does pull your heart stings. This is of course dependent on how you played the game, but I can't seem to play without that ending because I love these characters.

The worst character for me is James. Every time play this game, I am instantly annoyed by his whininess, his cockiness, and his conversational tone just pushes me away from caring about him. I also don't think he has done anything to join the N7 as compared to the thousands of others who did what he did.

People don't like the endings because they want Shepard to survive. There is a way he does, but it is basically not the "Canon" ending. I mean, I assume not since Mass Effect 4, whenever it comes out, takes place centuries in the future and so Shepard isn't alive. That isn't a surprise because we wanted a good story to come to a good end and I think this game did that.

One last things about the ending. I understand there are some issues with it. The kid makes sense, but is stupid. Give me another VI or something like that. I think the issue is the way it moves and talks. I think that does more to kill the options that the options themselves. It's dumb.

My Rating

From Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2, this ending is one of the best stories you'll ever play. It did what EVERY other game series fails to do. Complete the story. I love the Assassin's Creed Series, which I am currently playing through again, and there are quite a few misses because it keeps pushing forward. This game series doesn't have that. It tells a complete story. From beginning to end. Your character matters, your choices matter, all of what you do matters and I love that. This is for sure a "GET THIS GAME." A must-play. Whatever phrase you want to give it as a means of being a part of your required gaming story.

Parental Rating

There is a sex scene, but it is the most limited in the series. Also, if you have the same relationship all 3 games, there is more love than a throw of passion. The language is limited to more every day swear words and less F-bombs. The violence is turned up a bit from a visual background perspective and from the gore, but it is still multicolored so a little more forgiving for my mom.
